Plough shells feasting on a dead jellyfish. Plough shells are a feature of wave-exposed sandy beaches all around southern Africa, and may be recognized by the extremely broad flat foot and reduced, often serrated operculum. All are blind and rely upon their keen sense of smell to detect carrion, around which they rapidly congregate.
